Getting juicy with Ribena!
The Ribena berries came to life as they were character modeled for Ribena’s new “Bursting with Berryness” summer campaign, created by Happy Finish.
The images see the family of berries enjoying their vitamin CCceeee by catapulting across rolling hills to make one of the nation’s favourite drinks.
Working in collaboration with agency MC Saatchi, the entire image was created from scratch using CGI, referencing illustrative scamps provided from the agency. “This was a great project to work on as creating characters in CGI requires a different approach compared to modeling photo-real objects”, explains Simon Allan, CGI artist on the project.
“It’s always satisfying to develop characters with realistic features, which then start to interact with other elements in the scene and environment. It’s important to get the perspective and sense of scale correct from the offset to make sure the all the elements work together in a believable manner” says Simon.
Using Vue to help build the rolling hills landscape, the scene was modeled, lit and textured in 3Ds Max. Happy Finish retoucher David Tweedie added the final touches by warming up the tones of the image and perfecting the Ribena berries’ colour.
These cute little characters can also be seen in Ribena’s TV advert, also out now. And remember to keep your eyes open for the next campaign images coming out soon!!
